Read the median first

Half of all concrete contractors on Google have 7 reviews or fewer. Read that again, because it changes what you should spend money on. In a trade where a single driveway is worth thousands, the typical company has almost no public proof that it has ever poured one. 16.1% have zero reviews and 57.9% are under 10.

Low medians are an opportunity, not a comfort. It means the bar to look like the most established crew in your county is lower here than in almost any other trade. The 75th percentile is 21 reviews. The 90th is 55. Only 4.9% of concrete contractors have cleared 100. Chase the 90th percentile, not the median, because the map pack only shows three businesses and the median company is not one of them.

Ignore the mean of 26.8. It is dragged upward by a small number of large commercial and ready mix operations with hundreds of reviews, and it describes nobody's actual competition. The 25th percentile, 1, is the honest picture of the bottom of the trade.

Ratings will not separate you

The average rating in the dataset is 4.6 stars, and 72.2% of concrete contractors sit at 4.5 or higher. 45.7% show a perfect 5.0, which mostly means they have three reviews from three friends. A homeowner comparing a 5.0 with four reviews against a 4.7 with 140 picks the 4.7 every time, and so does Google.

The rating only matters at the bottom. 13.9% of the trade is below 4.0, and below 4.0 people stop reading and call the next number. Concrete draws hard reviews for real reasons, cracking, spalling, color that dried three shades off the sample, so a company doing volume will collect some. The defense is quantity and calm replies, not a spotless record.

The website gap is the widest gap in the trade

25.7% of concrete contractors list no website on their Google profile. Those with a site have a median of 10 reviews. Those without have 2. We are not claiming the website produced the reviews; companies that take the business seriously tend to do both. But that gap is a five times difference on the single most visible number a homeowner sees, and it means a quarter of your local competition has nowhere to send a photo, a price range, or a proof of insurance.

Concrete is a photograph-driven purchase. Stamped patios, exposed aggregate, colored and sealed flatwork, a before and after of a cracked 1974 driveway replaced in three days. If you have no website, all of that lives in your phone where nobody can find it.

Profiles and hours

95.1% of listings have at least one photo, so having none puts you in the bottom few percent instantly. Only 20% publish an email address, which matters more here than in emergency trades because homeowners and builders both like to send plans and photos before they call. 38.8% list no hours at all, 27.5% show Saturday hours and 12.6% show Sunday. Saturday is when homeowners walk their yard and decide the patio is finally happening, and a profile that says Closed is a profile that gets skipped.

What to do with this

  1. Pull your own three numbers off your Google Business Profile right now: review count, rating, and whether a website link is present.
  2. Place yourself against the percentiles. Under 7 is the bottom half. Under 21 is the bottom three quarters. 55 and up is where the crews winning the map pack live.
  3. If you are in the 25.7% with no site, fix that before anything else. Five pages, tap-to-call, a price range per square foot and 40 job photos. See website essentials.
  4. Start a review ask on strip day, every job, no exceptions. Two to four a week takes a 15-review company past the 75th percentile inside a season. The scripts are in the reviews guide.
  5. Add real hours including Saturday morning, load 20 photos with captions naming the finish and the town, and publish an email address.
  6. Run the calculator on your own job average before you buy a single click, then spend on ads only once the profile and the site can convert the traffic you paid for.

Method

This report aggregates 80,873 public Google Business Profile listings collected from Google Maps searches for concrete contractors across every US state, deduplicated by place. Review counts and ratings are as displayed on the listing at collection time. "Website listed" means the profile links to any URL; we classify the URL as an owned domain, a social profile, or a free site builder by hostname. Figures are refreshed monthly.
